How to apply for social assistance.

OVERVIEW

Ontario Works helps people who are in financial need through:

Financial assistance including income to help with the costs of basic needs like food, clothing and shelter as well as health benefits for clients and their families.

Emergency assistance for people who are in a crisis or an emergency situation (such as fire, flood, impending eviction or homeless, health-related crisis, family violence or concern about safety, death in the immediate family or theft).

APPLICATION TIPS

Please be sure to have the following information available for each family member living with you:

  • Date of Birth
  • Social Insurance Number
  • Health Card Number
  • Immigration Number & Date of Landing, if applicable
  • Asset Details (i.e. Bank Account, Vehicle, Property, RRSP, etc.)
  • Accommodation costs (rent/mortgage, heat, hydro, insurance)
  • Address and Employment history (last 12 months for each)
  • Present Earnings & Income (i.e. Wages, WSIB, CPP, EI, Support)
