Partnering with DNSSAB
Advancing housing development in the Nipissing District requires collaboration. DNSSAB partners with developers, non-profits, and municipalities to deliver housing solutions that respond to local community needs.
DNSSAB may periodically issue a Request for Expression of Interest (RFEI) for affordable housing initiatives, allowing proponents to submit proposals for projects that are either shovel-ready or conceptual. Successful RFEI proponents will be added to DNSSAB’s Vendor of Record list. If funding becomes available and a project aligns with the applicable funding criteria, the proponent may be contacted. Procurement opportunities can be accessed via the link below:
For more information on housing development, to be placed on our mailing list for future Request for Expression of Interest (RFEI) or to discuss project feasibility and development planning, please reach out to Housing.development@dnssab.ca
FAQs
Funding could come from a combination of provincial, territorial, federal, municipal, or other available funding sources. Proponents may also be required to contribute equity, with the amount depending on the specific funding opportunity.
Eligibility would generally depend on factors such as income thresholds, household size, residency requirements, and, in some cases, target groups can be identified for specific projects (i.e. seniors, individuals experiencing homelessness, etc.).
The DNSSAB considers many factors regarding site location, including but not limited to, community need, land availability, zoning, infrastructure capacity, and alignment with municipal housing strategies.
Timelines would vary by project, but a new development could take approximately 18 to 36 months from planning to occupancy. Factors could include funding approvals, environmental assessments, construction schedules, and community consultations.
The DNSSAB could develop a range of housing types, such as affordable rental units, rent-geared-to-income units, supportive housing, transitional housing, or mixed-income developments.
Projects would typically be expected to follow provincial building codes and energy-efficient standards, and could incorporate green technologies such as heat pumps, solar panels, or high-efficiency insulation where feasible or required based on funding requirements.
Yes. The DNSSAB works with private developers, non-profit organizations, and municipalities.
Successful proponents of a Request for Expression of Interest (RFEI) could be placed on a Vendor Record list, helping ensure that viable housing options are available if funding opportunities arise. Since many funding opportunities may have short application timelines, maintaining Vendors of Record could help the DNSSAB respond more quickly with affordable housing options for funding applications.
