WHEN THE UNEXPECTED HAPPENS…
I never thought I would be unemployed but due to Provincial and Federal job cuts, that’s where I found myself. As a well-educated university graduate, I couldn’t find work, and I was also ashamed and reluctant to seek out help. But with bills to pay, I found myself in urgent need of social assistance. I soon found myself with no other choice but to seek out help from Ontario Works. After applying to the Ontario Works program, I was able to obtain immediate financial assistance that permitted me to meet my direct short term financial needs and I was referred to a Coordinator to assist in my job search. Within a period of less than a month, I was able to obtain two part-time positions. This was no fluke, but rather the direct result of the assistance I received during a time of duress and uncertainty.
